Problem: With the World Cup happening half a world away, many of US viewers tuning in from across the globe may be joining matches after they have begun, causing them to miss the action. This geographical divide posed a unique challenge, particularly for those who may find themselves joining the matches after they have already kicked off. In response to this problem, we've envisioned a strategic feature that aims to enhance the viewing experience, offering a design solution to ensure that there is no exciting moment is missed, even if you're fashionably late to the live action.
Goal: To introduce a "Catch Up With Highlights" feature that presents match highlights from the action missed before taking the viewer into the live stream.
Features: A "leanback" Catch Up user experience for consuming prior key plays. A method, both manual and technical, for tagging key plays for eligibility into this new service.
Solution (For all sports, not just World Cup): Introduce a new "Catch-Up Moments" service to the SportsData system responsible for tracking and exposing highlight moment metadata via the event uri. Client interacts with "Catch-Up Moment" service to present UI and interactive functionality with the video player so a fan can jump to any moment in a live stream.
In response to the unique challenges posed by the World Cup taking place half a world away, we've conceptualized a groundbreaking feature – the "Catch Up With Highlights" – aimed at elevating the viewing experience for our US audience. The scenario is familiar: viewers may find themselves joining a match after it has already commenced, and we want to ensure they don't miss a beat. This innovative feature is designed to provide a dynamic and comprehensive overview of match highlights, seamlessly transitioning viewers into the live stream and offering a tailored solution to bridge the gap between the missed action and the unfolding excitement.
